Laparoscopic surgery

Many procedures are now routinely performed using laparoscopic or “key hole” surgery. This involves placing a high definition video camera and  a number special instruments into the abdominal cavity to allow surgery to be undertaken without formally opening the abdomen through a traditional long incision

Upper GI procedures performed laparoscopically:

Cholecystectomy

Bile duct exploration

Fundoplication

Repair paraoesophageal hernia

Cardiomyotomy

Incisional hernia repair

Gastric band

Gastric bypass
